Heat Finishes With A Victory

Saturday, March 5, the Heat (6-3) played the Cowboys. With a win the Heat would finish tied for second place in the league standings. That is exactly how it all played out. The Heat beat the Cowboys 32-22.

In the first half the Heat started out in a 2-3 zone and the Cowboys were able to score from the wing position. The Heat were down by a couple of baskets early in the game. After the Heat switched its defense up to guard the outside shot better, the Heat were able to go ahead by two points by half-time, 15-13.

In the second half the boys came out strong. They were active on defense, running the floor well and rebounding. The Heat dominated the second half to win the game by 10 points.

The coaches would agree that this was the best passing game we had all season. Our point guard made some great passes on fast breaks, our wings were looking inside and we had a couple of really good post to post passes. It is very rewarding as a coach when the players are starting to look more and more like a basketball team who understands the game! Great job boys!!

Heat Wins By One

Saturday, February 26th the Heat (5-3) played its second game of the day against the Jets. This was the third time the Heat played the Jets. In the two previous games each team had a win. The Heat would not have expected to win this game with only five field goals for the entire game. However the Jets were having a poor shooting night as well. At half time the score was tied 7-7. The game ended with the Heat winning by one point, 13-12. This game could have gone either way.
With this win the Heat, Jets and Legends are in a 3-way tie for second place heading into the last regular season game. It will be exciting to see where the Heat finishes...

HEAT OT Win Against Legends

Saturday, February 26th the Heat (4-3) played against the Legends. It was the 2nd time these two teams faced one another with the Legends winning the first game.
In the first half both teams struggled to get points. It stayed even for awhile until five minutes before half time and the Legends took a five point lead 11-16. In the second half the Heat and the Legends played pretty close. If one team would score it seemed as if the other team would score. The Legends lead stayed at about five points the entire second half. With 1:47 left in the game the Heat made 2 baskets and a free throw to tie the game (26-26) while holding the Legends to zero points and sending the game into overtime.
In overtime the Legends scored on their first offensive possession on an outside shot. But that is the only basket they would make for the rest of the game. The Heat also scored only one basket but they were able to hit one free throw to win the game by one point.
The coaches would agree that this was probably the best "team" win the Heat have played all season. We played pretty good team defense, got rebounds, steals and took better shots. Each player had at least one key play in this win!

Celtics Offensive Rebounds Beat the Heat

Wednesday, February 23rd the Heat (3-3) played against the Celtics. The Heat knew it would be a tough game. The Celtics came into this game undefeated and in first place. Also the Heat was without one of its players.
In the first half both teams were playing pretty even. Towards the end of the half the Heat just could not get a basket to fall. At the half the Celtics lead by five.
In the second half, again the Heat struggled on offense while their team defense remained strong. The Celtics scored only six points in the second half in their offense. The other twelve points were scored on offensive rebound put backs. The Heat could not secure the weak side rebound. This was a tough loss for the Heat. The final score was 13-30.
As a coach these games can be used to teach the boys why it is so important that we do the "little things'" like block out and take good shots. Boys keep your head up...one thing the coaches can always count on is your hard work!! Adler we missed you! We are ready to see you back in the line-up.
